- BJP veteran and former central minister Manoj Sinha was appointed lieutenant governor of Jammu & Kashmir.
- He will be the first politician to be appointed LG in the newly formed Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory.
- Manoj Sinha lost the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Ghazipur to BSP's Afzal Ansari.
- Sinha was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996, 1999 and 2014.
- Sinha was also in contention for the UP chief minister’s post but BJP chose Yogi Adityanath.
- Sinha served as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Communications and Minister of State for Railways in the previous term of the Narendra Modi government.
- In the first week of July 2016, when Sinha assumed the charge of the Telecom Ministry, the immediate task at hand was to achieve the target of BharatNet by connecting 1 lakh villages by broadband Internet by end of December 2017.
- Sinha, has a B. Tech in civil engineering from the Institute of Technology, BHU, Varanasi.
- Born on July 1, 1959 in Mohanpura in the district of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh.
- Sinha did his schooling under the UP board of education before going to IT-BHU.
