Perseverance Rover- NASA’s mission to Mars : The biggest, most sophisticated Mars rover ever built — a car-size vehicle bristling with cameras, microphones, drills and lasers — blasted off for the red planet on July 30 as part of an ambitious, long-range project to bring the first Martian rock samples back to Earth to be analysed for evidence of ancient life.

NASA’s Perseverance rode a mighty Atlas V rocket into a clear morning sky in the world’s third and final Mars launch of the summer. China and the United Arab Emirates got a headstart last week.

The plutonium-powered, six-wheeled Perseverance rover will drill down and collect tiny geological specimens that will be brought home in about 2031 in a sort of interplanetary relay race involving multiple spacecraft and countries. The overall cost: more than $8 billion.

About Perseverance Rover :- 

• The Perseverance rover weighs less than 2,300 pounds and is managed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab. 
• The Perseverance rover’s mission will be to search for signs of past microbial life. 
• It will also collect samples of Martian rocks and dust, according to the release. 
• The Perseverance rover will also be tasked with studying the red planet’s geology and climate. 
• All of NASA’s previous Mars rovers — including the Sojourner (1997), Spirit and Opportunity (2004) and Curiosity (exploring Mars since 2012) — were named in this way.
