Educationist Pradeep Kumar Joshi was appointed the chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Pradeep Kumar Joshi is currently a member in the UPSC. Joshi joined the UPSC as its member on May 12, 2015.
He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Arvind Saxena, the outgoing chairman of the UPSC.
His tenure as the chairman of the UPSC will be till May 12, 2021.
Prior to joining the UPSC, he was the chairman of the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission and the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission.
He also served as the Director of National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA).

India's premier central recruiting agency.
Responsible for appointments to and examinations for All India services and group A & group B of Central services.
Established on - 1 October 1926
It was later reconstituted as Federal Public Service Commission by the Government of India Act 1935
Lee Commission (1924) - This committee recommended the establishment of a Public Service Commission.
Constitutional status of UPSC :-
Articles 315 to 323 of Part XIV of the constitution, titled as Services Under the Union and the States, provide for a Public Service Commission for the Union and for each state. As per Art. 315, at Union level, Union Public Service Commission is envisaged by it.
Appointment :-
As per Article 316, the Chairman and other members of Union Public Service Commission shall be appointed by the President.
The Chairman and other members of a Public Service Commission shall be appointed, in the case of the Union Commission or a Joint Commission, by the President, and in the case of a State Commission, by the Governor of the State.
Term :-
A member of a Public Service Commission shall hold office for a term of six years from the date on which he enters upon his office or until he attains, in the case of the Union Commission, the age of sixty-five years, and in the case of a State Commission or a Joint Commission, the age of sixty-two years, whichever is earlier.
